From
1966 to 1992 I made my living as a TV
producer and director. In this role I
produced over 600 editions of YTV’s local
show Calendar and from 1972 to 1974 I
produced the legendary Indoor League
with Fred Trueman and his catch line ‘I’ll
sithi in a tick.’
In 1970 I began making network
documentaries on sport, politics and
science. I worked with the great eccentric
scientist Magnus Pyke and in 1972 was Alan
Whicker’s ‘boss’ for a few weeks when I
produced Whicker’s Women.
At the BBC in Manchester in the
early 1980s I worked on The Russell Harty
Show and on sports shows as a reporter
with Eddie Hemmings, Eamonn Holmes and the
great Denis Law.
In 1993 I did a series for
Tyne-Tees TV called Waddell’s World
in which I was a by turn a butler to a posh
Tweeddale family, a caravanner and on the
dole.
In 1999 I was the Voice of the
Balls on the Lottery on Red Alert on
BBC and was SACKED after one performance.
Reason? ‘Voice too Geordie’ !*!
